BB by koalagardens

BB

I call all my butcher birds BB, well it's fitting! They love to follow me around when I mow (ride on mower) and pick off all the insects. If you have never heard one google and be amazed, they sing!
This BB is sitting on a tree guard post and you can see the tip of the young tree planted just a couple of months ago and coming above the guard now. This tree (and another 350) are being grown to cut and harvest to feed the koalas in the care centre where we rehabilitate sick and injured koalas.
All the rest of my property apart from this plantation area is under conservation of native koala habitat.

Thank you for the many beautiful and thoughtful comments on my project - you can't know what a difference it makes as I work to keep koalas on our planet a bit longer :)
Great capture fav

A fabulous capture. Fav.

(Why is it called a butcher bird. Seems like an unfortunate name)

@susiemc thanks for asking Sue - they have this behaviour of storing extra food by impaling it and leaving it hang in trees. They are beautiful to look at, incredible to hear singing, but they are agressive predators and eat other small birds, lizards and insects, yet they will also eat some fruits and seeds.

Really important predator in the Australian bush.
