I nearly backed the quad bike into these beauties - very glad I didn't as they sting like anything if they feel threatened. These are out native ones, and they feed insect larvae of many pest insects to their young, so it's great to see them around.

Many a bite from these nasty little beggars when I was young and riding to school on a horse. They like to hang on fences and bushes and attack if you brushed them as you rode by.
@ubobohobo yes I've encountered their sharp ends too and was so glad when I just saw them as I was about to brush past this reversing the quaddie - phew!
