Great capture! My clients love it when I sing ‘Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree...........’ they know I sing an English song but don’t understand the text but that doesn’t matter as long they are happy ;)
@jacqbb@shutterbug49 I wake to the sound of them every morning, and hear them at dusk every day too - and that song dances in my mind and I smile and will never tire of the sound of their laughter. To me the world feels ok when a kooka laughs :)
@vignouse I think it's related to the prey they hunt - they eat snakes, lizards, mammals and will grab quite surprisingly large prey and proceed to bash them against a tree trunk to kill them. They then often eat things whole if they can get it down. Even though they are the largest kingfisher, they don't often eat fish and don't nest in river/pond banks, but love to scoop out a termite mound in a tree to use as a hollow. Maybe the beak helps with that job too :)
Best part is when the rain stops and all the birds start to sing... i love it...
