San Francisco Peaks

Grand Canyon Trip Day 21: March 2. Left the Grand Canyon at 8:20 am to head to Flagstaff Chevrolet because the check engine light was on in the Silverado. Talked with a very informative service writer named Mike who explained that the stringent guidelines for diesel exhaust systems in the US along with using diesel exhaust fluid other than that made/marketed by GM/AC Delco (hard to find) can cause emissions system issues.

Mike reset the system to make the check engine light go out. The error code had something to do with the particulate matter sensor temperature circuit high voltage… time will tell if this issue will reappear… as things go I expect that we will see it again. We plan on purchasing one of the devices to plug in to check/reset the codes ourselves… this is the 4th Chevy dealer we have stopped at on this trip.

We didn’t have far to drive today and arrived at Homolovi State Park at about 12:30. We had lunch in the parking lot and walked out to see the Sunset Cemetery. Mormon settlers built Sunset Fort in the 1870’s but the settlement only lasted 10-11 years due to drought, disease, and floods.

We drove three miles out to the Pueblo ruins at Homolovi II & saw a kiva and then the “central plaza” area of the settlement. In the distance we saw the “sacred mesas.” Now it was time to head to the campground and get set up for the night. We reserved the same site we had on our trip out to the Grand Canyon so we knew setup and breakdown would be easy.

The sun is so warm here with temperatures of 60-70F but there is a nice cool breeze. We are relaxing now and enjoying having our windows open to the breeze.
A very lovely scene, and I've enjoyed all your wonderful vistas from this trip of yours, thanks for sharing them!

@shutterbug49 the hike was super awesome and the views were incredible... sleeping in below freezing temps was chilly but bearable. My next goal is to do a rim to rim trip.

I can’t believe it! We were staying in Flagstaff during our trip to Sedona. We were there from 2/28 to 3/3. Wish that I would have been looking at 365 photos during the time we were there and we could have possibly met up! Just catching up with 365 now as we returned home yesterday. This is a beautiful shot. Sorry to hear about those truck issues. Hope all goes well with the rest of your trip KV!
