I was a little disappointed that so many of the rhododendrons were past their blooming phase… this one was still pretty and you can see Moccasin Creek in the background. The big ant seems to be enjoying the flower too.
@jgpittenger I always have trouble telling the difference… I thought rhododendron beauties of the very large leaves and super large size of the plant/tree. Basically all azaleas are rhododendrons but not all rhododendrons are azaleas.
@casablanca I have trouble telling them apart. This bloom was on a very tall tree… I think of azaleas as more shrub like than tree like. It could be an azalea… not sure. What I read said that an azalea has 5 stamens and a rhododendron 10.
