This the main hall of my school. It's the newest building in our district (about 8 years old) and is very open and built using lots of wood and metal. The left wall doesn't have a ceiling and houses the library and computer lab. My classroom is on the second floor, just above where I'm standing. The space looks really quite beautiful but makes for a noisy building!! The architect obviously hasn't heard what 30 grade 5s moving sound like!
Absolutely gorgeous learning environment though! We are expanding our school soon and it is funny to see what architects don't think of in regard to the reality of schools.
@archaeofrog I know what you mean. There's only two "single" room washrooms upstairs for 6 classrooms. You can just imagine the line up (and noise) after recess and lunch!!
Beautiful shot! Love the color tones and lines!
Amazing that the little details, such as how the space will be used and by whom, are often overlooked in the building process. We just moved into a new building where I work and, although architecturally gorgeous, lacks functionality for our department!
@kwind Yeah, yikes. We have lockers on both sides of really narrow hallway. Now imagine kids putting on snow pants while others are trying to race outside ...!
@amyvanross I actually teach grade 2/3 (22 of them) but the oldest classes of 30 grade 5s (well of all the classes really) are loud when walking through especially if you're with your class in the library attempting to listen to our soft spoken librarian read a story!
A beautiful building but a pity about the lack of functionality. Reminds me of my primary school back in the 70's. Somebody had the great idea of "open classrooms" so they tore down the walls separating grades 4,5, and 6! MAYHEM!
Lol! No he must not!, wonderful mixture though of the wood and metal , must be nice when it rains. Great pov and would also work for the leading lines challenge:)
