How did I end up with this???

Can you guess what this is? Not at all the shot I was planning. I'm 3 hours from home in Victoria for a swim meet. I left the kids at the pool at 8:30am this morning to visit three different lighting stores. Then I hit the appliance store and paid for my new range. Next was a browse through a furniture store for the super rich. Found several lovely pieces but until I win the lottery, the $2500 bookshelf I liked will have to remain in their building a little longer. Left there and made it to the pool seconds after my daughter dove in to start her 200 back in which she got a best time! Unfortunately I missed both of their first races (mom of the year award will have to wait). Watched both kids swim two races for an hour and a half and then dragged them back to the lighting store for their opinion (which took milliseconds and lacked the enthusiasm I was looking for). I rewarded them with ice cream which they ate in the car while I looked at much more reasonablely priced furniture until they texted to see if I'd been abducted. Back to the hotel we went for an hour before they had to return to the pool for warm up. I decided I'd go in search of tulips before the races began so I went for a lovely drive. The weather was gorgeous and I was meandering down lonely country roads feeling quite relaxed and calm. That was until my daugter texted to say she's left her racing suit in the hotel room. So I kicked it into race car mode and flew back with 3 mins to spare (maybe I will get mom of the year award after all). Needless to say I did not get a single shot of a tulip or anything else up until this point. I did notice some tulips outside the pool though so out I ran and took four shots before heading back in to watch both kids do a relay and my son swim three finals. He managed to get his first eleven year old AAA long course time as well as break a meet and club record! He was happy! 8:15pm we left the pool and picked up the pizza I'd ordered for dinner. I thought I'd transfer my tulip shots to my iPad and go to bed. Well, no such luck because the particular memory card I was using is not readable by the iPad (I had forgotten to switch it out)!! So... I put in the readable one and thought, "what the #*%! am I going to shoot now??" This is it! Did you figure it out? It's the cord from the bathroom's built in blowdryer!! Now that I've written this short novel, I must go to sleep as the wake call is coming at 6:30am. Good night all. I'll try to comment tomorrow.
Nice. Against the mirror? Congrats to your boy for the record breaking! I would have liked to see you right after getting that race suit text!! :-)

April 27th, 2013
I HATE that "what the #*%! am I going to shoot now??" feeling! Love your narrative. I'd say you're still in the running for Mom of the Year.

April 27th, 2013
Cool shot
April 27th, 2013
@m9f9l No mirror. The cord hung down and then wrapped upwards to the holder.
April 27th, 2013
Yowza! I was thinking oboe cord but trying to think who has even heard of a "corded" phone any more!
April 27th, 2013
And by oboe I meant phone.
April 27th, 2013
busy busy day! ~ great narrative and shot to go with it ~ I love the tones and dof
April 27th, 2013
@archaeofrog Ha ha...I thought that's what you meant. There actually is a corded phone in the room too!
April 27th, 2013
@kwind I would give you major points for finding an oboe cord though ...
April 27th, 2013
I would never have guessed, but it makes for a great composition.
April 27th, 2013
Wow, u are gifted to make a dryer cord look so beautiful! You must be so proud of your swimmers! My son broke a pool record at age 11 as well! :) baseball season has started and I am happy about that. Do u ever get a little tired of long hours at the pool?
April 27th, 2013
Great macro. Love pov and dof!
April 27th, 2013
Makes me think of old telephones. :)
April 27th, 2013
@elizabeth264 I definitely get tired from the LONG hours watching but I've been disappearing whenever I can to go do house stuff. I'm usually taking photos but I'm just not into it this weekend.
April 28th, 2013

April 28th, 2013
Wow that is one busy day. Now I do not feel so bad. I was thinking a cord from an old rotary phone
April 28th, 2013
Well, I think you are eligible for Mom of the Year! Getting them to an all day swim meet, then trying to get some chores and shopping done and they still got ice cream! Sounds like a busy bit great day! Loved your novel! And the shot you ended up with.
April 28th, 2013
not too bad :) I agree with the others : you deserve the award !
April 28th, 2013
Sue
I'm exhausted just reading this ... you are amazing. I was thinking the old type pf telephone cord, circa 1970's, haha
April 28th, 2013
Wow! Busy day, gorgeous result!
April 28th, 2013
What a day! The bit about shopping sounded cool and I think your super-mum award is just in the wings waiting for them to remember to award it to you! Cheer them on for us too! (Almost forgot - I thought it was a phone lead but I was close, it looks great).
April 28th, 2013
Loved hearing about your day. You are one busy lady! And what a great shot for a moment's notice xx
April 28th, 2013
brilliant focus and dof! love the idea!
April 28th, 2013
Congrats to both kids on such a successful swim meet. I kinda like this cord!
April 29th, 2013
I am afraid my kids will never know what it is to be tethered only a few feet from the phone source
April 29th, 2013
I thought it was an old time telephone cord. What a day! Congrats to your kids on their swim meet. So you did not get to go to Butchart Gardens?
April 29th, 2013
@judis No to Butchart Gardens. We went at Christmas and it was beautiful. I drove right by the entrance during my "drive" and it looked amazing. I went years ago during the spring and loved it because the place was full of tulips, which are my favourite!!
April 29th, 2013
Ha ha! Love your story. Sounds hectic! And for something so mundane, you got a really great shot of it. Love the DOF and the white on white!
April 30th, 2013
Gorgeous shot. I've been missing your shots lately. Timing I guess...I'm loving them all.
May 3rd, 2013
Ok. I actually thought I was commenting on the tulips...which are gorgeous. This shot, very cool. I thought it was an old style phone cord as well.
May 3rd, 2013
Love the stories you add, but have to admit I found myself reading faster as events were happening and now feel exhausted! A mad day then?
