Eight of us went on a two hour Sunset zodiac boat ride this evening. We left Campbell River and headed southeast towards Mitlenatch Island which is a Provincial Park ( http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/mitlenatch_is/). It is home to the largest seabird colony in the Strait of Georgia. On the way we spotted several small black porpoises. We weren't able to go off and tour the island but drove around and saw seals and Stellar Sea Lions as well as numerous birds nesting on the cliffs. Two caretakers live on the island in this small, rustic hut. I thought it qualified as a Rural environment for the ONS5 challenge. You might have to view this large to see the hut! I can't imagine living here! The nearest populated area is a 30 minute boat ride away.
