I went to an antique store with my mom and sister today and found these funky branding numbers. I really have no idea what I'm going to do with them at this point but I know there's some sort of design potential in them. Any suggestions??? They look better large (they're a little dull compared to my monitor).
Very cool! I am sure you will come up with something fabulous! Kim, I wonder if I could pick your brain a bit. I was recently asked to take photographs for my son's high school swim team during meets. They had the first meet this week and I gave it a go. I really struggled with the lighting. I had to up my ISO to max 6400 and keep the aperture wide open. The results were not very impressive! Do you have any tips on settings or equipment that would help. Is the bottom line a better lens? What do you use? I know you are a pro at this and I figured there was no one better to ask than you!
These look like they'll be fun to work with. Concept shots that have to do with branding, numbers to do with dates, shapes that mirror nature, etc. Great to just think about them!
@pflaume I've been taking swimming shots for years but only in the last couple have I been able to consistently take decent ones. I started in auto .jpeg mode and slowly switched to manual mode in raw format. I think the biggest reason for the improvement is my lens. When I got my 70-200 f2.8 lens things improved immensely. When I got my d800 they improved even more. I can turn the ISO way up without problems and the files are huge so I can crop in close. My advice is to take LOTS of shots. I always shot in f2.8 with the speed at a minimum of 800 but try for 1500. We're allowed on the pool deck and I find the best light and hang out there. I focus on the kids in the closest lanes and get low. I love being at the far end and getting the kids doing butterfly and breast stroke from straight on. Just take lots and experiment with your settings. I only ever post my best ones, there's 100s of duds that get deleted (often at the pool seconds after the swimmer is out of few). Hope that helps!
i love these and the way you shot them - fav - they do look great enlarged as the perspective and contrast come out - you could use them as stamps with coloured paint and terrorise the neighbourhood by leaving obscure but worrying numbers on front doors !!
Great find. Can you put glass on top and turn it into a cool side table or coffee table ? The bottoms would have to be anchored in some kind of base or frame.
this is a very cool shot... and it definitely SHINES when largified!
