@rockinrobyn I'm not sure what 14 bit uncompressed" means. I just shot in raw. Sometimes the files are HUGE but my aperture program converts things over automatically. I like having the ability to crop and still have good quality.
I do not yet have the D800, but might soon, and I read online some about the different RAW options. Apparently if you shoot 12 bit compressed, your file sizes might be 30 MB instead of 75 MB as you tend ot get with 14 bit uncompressed. That all sounds huge to me, as my current images max out at 16 MB. I use Lightroom and it's already running a little slow with editing and exporting, so I'm worried about the file size.
@yonnie I have two cameras, Yvonne. I put my good one on the tripod and set it to auto focus with my remote trigger thing. I took my old camera and walked away and with my far hand pushed the trigger (you just can't see it because it was sort of behind the camera and dark). I then flipped the whole thing afterwards. The trick was getting the camera low enough to see lots of the water/sand. It was my first time ever doing such a thing and I was pleased how it worked out.
@rockinrobyn I think either my camera or the Aperture program must do some kind of compression thing. I get big files but never anything over 20 MB. Most are probably in the 8-10MB raw. It does make for slightly slower processing which bugged me at first but I'm used to it now. I love my D800!!
