A ship, a seal and my personal fishermen

That's my husband and son fishing while a cruise ship going to Alaska heads north. That black spot in the water just in front of them is a seal. I took this last night just after I posted my rose shot (thanks for your comments & favs). Those of you who know my regular view might notice that the mountains have disappeared. That's because of numerous forest fires happening in British Columbia and on Vancouver Island right now. It is VERY smokey here today! We are experiencing a drought like we've never seen before and it's rather scary!

Check out this link to see the satellite view of all the smoke. It's rather incredible. http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2015/07/satellite-view-shows-massive-plume-of-wildfire-smoke-over-metro-vancouver/ I'm located in Campbell River about the middle of Vancvouer Island and just at the edge of that smoke.
Interesting persistence of scale.

having the two boats there really give perspective
July 6th, 2015
Love the two different size boats, great perspective.
I hope they get the fire under control soon, it must be so scary!

Wonderful shot. I just had a look at the satellite map, and another map to see where Campbell River is. So now I know :)

Is that the same ship from a few days ago, but heading in the opposite direction?
July 7th, 2015
@stuckinoz Not the exact same ship but from the same company. It is one of the "DAM" ships.
July 7th, 2015
Fabulous shot and love the juxtaposition.
Sorry to hear you are experiencing such horrendous forest fires. Very scary.
July 7th, 2015
Wow it puts it into perspective just how small their boat is and a seal to boot!
July 7th, 2015
Such an interesting shot.
July 7th, 2015
Loving the size difference
July 7th, 2015
The photo is terrific, so much to look at. I have been watching the news about the fires in both B.C. and Saskatchewan. Hopefully they are able to get them under control soon!
July 7th, 2015
I love the size comparison between the ship & the boat. Did they cat supper?
July 7th, 2015
This is such a lovely perspective shot. I hope the drought breaks for you soon, very scary fires!
July 7th, 2015
Love the comparison of sizes, nicely captured!
July 7th, 2015
this is a beautiful scene. It also looks like it could be a two-page spread in a children's book with the concept 'big-little' as the focus.
July 7th, 2015
Awesome shot
July 7th, 2015
Nice composition, I like the perspective!
July 7th, 2015
I like the scale comparison between the large cruise ship and your guys. I am troubled for you, with all the fires and drought. :(
July 7th, 2015
Great shot, Kim! Love where you've set the horizon!
July 7th, 2015
Beautiful moment caught. Great image
July 7th, 2015
Great perspective. There seems to be a lot of drought all over the world.
July 7th, 2015
terrific triple capture :) Hope all is ok with all those fires around you. Sounds like you really need a decent rain!
July 7th, 2015
It'a amazing how in such calm waters both vessels look so stationary! Beautiful shot.
July 7th, 2015
The difference in scale is amazing. I hope you get rain soon.
July 7th, 2015
Wow, very cool shot. I love the difference between the big ship and small boat.
July 7th, 2015
Great juxtaposition. I hope you get some rain soon.
July 7th, 2015
Nice scale and contrast!
July 7th, 2015
Must be incredible having that massive ship sAil past you & your house....all the passengers could be looking out admiring your property!
July 7th, 2015
Stunting capture. to get the three of them in one shot. And a Holland America Line ship. Hope you will have some rain soon for you dry mountains.
July 7th, 2015
Forest fires are always so scary because getting them under control is so hard and it affects people and wild life in so many ways!!! Hope they get those fires under control and you get lots and lots of rain!! Do love the shot and the contrast in sizes!! FAV!
July 7th, 2015
Wonderful capture! Hopefully their won't be too many forests destroyed by the fires!
July 8th, 2015
love the juxtaposition in this image... so scary about the fires, though...
July 8th, 2015
Excellent photo and comp! I'm sorry to hear about the forrest fires.
July 8th, 2015
Wonderful photo - love all the sections - what a comparison between your husband's fishing boat and the cruise ship! That smoke is terrible - I imagine it's getting difficult to breathe comfortably by now, especially for anyone with lung problems. Do hope they're able to get them under control soon. Times of drought are definitely scary.
July 8th, 2015
WOW...great perspective. Can't get over your wonderful views!! So even as far north as you are? I think we are due for bit of cool down and hopefully some rain... (aaaahhh..did I REALLY say that?)
July 8th, 2015
Great contrast between these two water vessels. How neat to have a seal for company while fishing. I would suppose that makes catching anything on the line a bit more of a challenge though. So sorry about the smoke and the drought conditions. May that change soon.
July 8th, 2015
That really shows perspective! love it and I wouldn't have seen the seal until you mentioned it.
July 8th, 2015
That's a great composition! The scale and the alignment between the two ships are amazing!
July 8th, 2015
Wow, a drought in British Columbia?! Hard to believe that! And, fires, and smoke.....starting to sound a lot like southern California!! Love what you captured here.....the tiny boat and the cruise ship, both facing in the same direction, the stillness, the feeling that there is nothing around them except for that misty emptiness and the water....
July 9th, 2015
Fabulous! Great juxtaposition!
July 10th, 2015
Lovely shot Kim. The use of the two different sized boats is really good.
July 10th, 2015
Such a great contrast between big and small here! :)
July 15th, 2015
