Transformations by the Sea by kwind

Transformations by the Sea

Every year our city as a carving contest called Transformations by the Sea. Men and women use chainsaws and other power and hand tools to make elaborate sculptures out of cedar logs. This was my favourite from this year. It's called the BFG - Big Friendly Giant from the novel and recent movie. My husband took this photo of me standing beside it. I'm 5'3" tall and he's much taller than me!! It's 15 feet tall and was made out of an 8 foot tall piece of cedar. He put two pieces together. Here's the carver's FB page if you want to see more... https://www.facebook.com/sawvalley/?hc_location=ufi

Your photo locations near your home always seem so remote, I never think of you as living in a city! How wonderful to had art created along the beach...and on no small scale either!
July 3rd, 2017
Great shot and sense of scale
July 3rd, 2017
@Weezilou They call it a city but it's small... only 35000 people. The site of the carving is about a 40 minute walk from my house.
July 3rd, 2017
Wow, that`s a huge one. Great capture of this beautiful art statue.
Our city isn`t bigger but we call it a city trough.

A very talented carver.

What has he got in the palm of his hand? A tiny person? He will stand her forever - unless there is a tsunami!
July 5th, 2017
@maggiemae It's a little person in his palm. The carvings are either bought by individuals or moved and displayed around our city. They stay in this location for a few months before they go to their permanent homes.
July 5th, 2017
@kwind Aha- good to know - thanks!
July 6th, 2017
Wow! That's awesome!
