A diary shot for those interested in the construction of our house. This hole will have a door and provide an access to our 4 foot crawlspace. Today the concrete people poured the "skim coat" and smoothed it out. Tomorrow the floor goes on... it's getting exciting now.
@skipt07 Full basements aren't popular here. I'm not sure if we could have dug down further but we didn't need any extra space so it wasn't an issue. This is our 10th house and we've never had a basement.
It's exciting to watch the house come together, but what I find interesting is the way you used rectangles and color to make a very interesting photo of the process.
Kim, did you ever make this kind of photo journal of a house project before? I just think this must be such a grand adventure! We're all so excited for you. . .
@lyno I've always taken photos but I think I'm better at it now. Since starting the project I look at things differently and I'm more aware of composition and framing now. I've always burned them to a disk and given the set to the new owners. It's fun to go back and see all the changes.
Looks house-like! Love the angle you picked for this shot. The fun part will be setting up your camera in the crawl space later to take the matching 'after' shot!
Oh my goodness this is so super exciting indeed! :) Lovely capture and what an awesome day it will be when you look back on this as a "before" shot! :) Congrats!
@ozziehoffy I'm not positive on the name but I think it's because the concrete is rather thin and covers the required elements. Some crawlspaces are just filled with sand and then a layer of poly (thick plastic) sits over top. We always opt to "skim coat" that with concrete so if you're using the space to store stuff it's firmer and more practical.
@ozziehoffy First they have to build short little walls on top of those raised lines you can see. They call them "pony walls" and then they will hang the joists which are 2x6s (or maybe 2x8s - I can't remember) on a vertical to create the base, then they "sheet" the joists with plywood. This is what they will be working on today.
