We left Bergen 7 days ago and were on the Lofoten islands for 3 of them, but the Northern Lights decided to appear only when we were on the quay at Svolvær waiting for the Hurtigruten boat to leave. I charged ahead of everybody else, got my cabin and then went on deck, got the camera set up and managed to take 8 pictures. In the first two the mountain was out of focus, three had no Northern Lights, and one with a 20s exposure had a fishing boat proceeding majestically through the scene, without creating any effect with artistic merit. Of the two decent shots, this was the less sharp but had more lights.
@shepherdmanswife@moonmtn Thanks for setting me straight. I was feeling unlucky, the lights arriving just as we were pre-occupied with boarding. But you are right of course, we have had a week of sunshine and saw the Aurora on that night and a little bit last night too.
We've seen them in Iceland on several different visits, but they don't always last for long. Yours is/are wonderful.
