Restaurants in Lyon serving the traditional local cuisine are called 'bouchons' Since Lyon regards itself as the gastronomic capital of France (yes, I know this is disputed by every other region), they are worth a try. The Café des Fédérations was recommended to us by friends who originate from the Rhône-Alpes region, and we went there on our last night in Lyon (Mrs.L's first trip to a bouchon). It's not fine dining, you can see the menu here http://restaurant-cafedesfederations-lyon.com/menus_traductions/Cafe_des_federations_menu_english.pdf but it was excellent and for €29 each a real bargain.
French continues to be my favourite cuisine, but I'm amazed at the four course lunches including wine and coffee the Spanish can knock out for 11 Euro.
