'Infox' is one of those new words introduced by the Académie Française as an alternative to English words and phrases that are entering everyday French, in this case replacing 'fake news'.
This antivax propaganda was posted at the entrance to the local primary school recently. It presents libertarian arguments but also claimed instances of the vaccine causing serious illness in children. That is of course powerfully emotive. This stuff isn't meant to inform, it is meant to spread fear. Whether the stories are true, or whether the illnesses were a result of the vaccination, it is impossible to say, and the consequences of non-vaccination are certainly not discussed.
France advises vaccination only for those 12 and older, and it is voluntary. 78% of the population are vaccinated, similar to Canada, NZ, Ireland and Australia, slightly ahead of US, Germany, UK, behind our neighbors Spain at 80% and Portugal at nearly 90%.
That rubbish seems to come up everywhere. I thought we were a bit higher vaxxed in Aus, and we are now doing 5 yrs and above. Interesting look into another culture.
