Recently I have tried to give up buying magazines, as I realize most women's magazines are filled with the same information over and over again... But I indulged my magazine habit this evening and read this magazine after enjoying some coffee (which I was also suppose to give up!).
sometimes you just have to sit back and relax. i remember, when i was a child, reading this great article in the paper by a woman named erma bombeck - don't know if i spelled that correctly - she used to have a column and then wrote books. she had been told to not drink coffee, eat bacon, go out in the sun, all these things. it was so funny. every last thing she wanted to do was BAD! if you ever get a chance, look her up. one of her most famous writings is ' the grass grows greener over the septic tank'
Well, we all need our small treats now and then to look forward to. A coffee and an interesting magazine seems a good way of spending some 'me time.' "Join a running club - In a recent study, mice that 'worked out' en masse lost 50 more fat than their solitary peers" If you apply that to magazine reading, if you read with other people with magazines, you gain 50% more info (through chat etc) There, I've just saved the scientific community the cost of the research. :)
great focus lauren. i dont buy magazine very often at all....mostly bc of what you just said...they are filled with the same stuff over and over...and half of the magazing, if not more, is filled with advertising!!! kind of a waste if you ask me. Well...a waste when your wanting to read ACTUAL stuff! Maybe you should switch to Photography magazines!? my husband got me a couple last year for my x-mas stocking and i really liked reading them. I have yet to buy more of them tho...i havent been reading much lately. Some of them can be filled with to much advertising stuff as well, but the some of them are really great!!
I stopped buying magazines as well for the same reason, but every now and then I just have to pick one up. They are a great way to relax and have a little indulgence (especially the gossip ones)!
cool shot... and nice observation.. i sometimes flick through them when my boss leaves them lying around and it takes me few minutes to go through the lot.. hate that half of the contents are adds...
What gets me is the way that ads have gone from just a few pages to nearly half the magazine over the decades! I prefer to just browse the hell out of them in the shop, then put them back on the shelf and walk home with that $5-$10 still in my pocket! LOL!
Surely reading is good for the brain even if it is similar things. Give up TV I say. and who in their right mind gives up coffee anyway? It's the water of life.
