Wash Ashore

On March 6, 4 to 8 million of these little plastic filters were accidentally released into the Merrimack River in New Hampshire from a wastewater sewage treatment plant. They just started showing up on our shores within the past few days. Today I picked up 156 of them in my one hour beach walk at my favorite beach. I wore gloves because the authorities recommended it. I'm heading back for more clean up duties tomorrow.
Well isn't that just wonderful.

My thought exactly, Rick! My family swims at this beach and my husband shellfishes there. We eat food from those waters.

That is such a shame! I admire you for going out there to try and make a difference for your shoreline. I hope there are more people like you, trying to make a difference...that's a lot of plastic filters.

ugh. I had heard about them turning up on Revere Beach, but didn't know they had made it to the Cape. I heard on the news this morning that there was a similar release of filters on Long Island.

Sold this photo to the local newspaper too! The editor said my shot was the best of all she got, even from the staff photographer.
