Not So Pretty by lauriehiggins

Not So Pretty

One of my challenges in year two is to go beyond the "pretty pictures" and keep my eyes open for other things to shoot. Today the weather was beautiful and when I went out onto my second floor deck to check in on the chickens I saw the remains of the flowers I used for my year one end photo.

For that photo, I laid daisy like mums on a black cloth to spell out "365." Afterwards, I carried the cloth out to the deck and dumped them onto the ground below. So 25 days (and one big snowstorm later), here they are again.

They aren't at their best but I think they look pretty good after being dumped 25 days ago! Nice photo too.

I think this is a great shot, I love the interests of the moss, rocks, leaves and flowers!

And if you hadn't told us, you could have passed that off as a natural shot of daisies past their prime.

Love the focus in this shot. This just proves that things don't have to be "beautiful" to make a wonderful photo!

I love the focus and the slight color that manages to peek out just a touch.

Beautiful remains of the flowers! Great focus:)

I LOVE this! I always try and focus on the "off" flowers too, but this is fabulous. Excellent detail and clarity, Laurie

nice juxtaposition. I really like the detail and tones in this. You rocked it, Laurie. Not pretty = pretty artistic!

Nice shot. Now you're getting down and dirty!

Frozen in time- even though they are a little worse for the wear, the raw beauty remains dominant. Really lovely and great idea!

Interesting textures there. They look pretty good after all of that time.

Very worthy photo! Shows beauty spent is still beauty!

"What a difference a day makes..." or in your case, 25 days!

Daisies revisited. Although not "pretty" in the traditional sense, there is a rough beauty her that's harder to explain. I like that you're looking outside of what you normal would focus on. I'm sure it will lead to many interesting finds.

I like that you are going beyond pretty. This was an interesting photo and the description detail gives it that extra bit of interest. I look forward to what comes next.
