I wanted to show the bigger picture at the Herring Run because it really is an event. It's an almost impossible scene to capture for so many reasons - wrong light no matter what time of day, too many people and way too many seagulls.
The hardest part about the previous seagull shots I've taken wasn't capturing a seagull eating herring. It was capturing just ONE seagull without getting feet, wings, heads, etc. of others in the frame. It's like taking a photo of one person at the mall at Christmas.
What a great shgot. All that activity, and I like the lighting, but for some reason I thought of a much larger run than what this appears to be. It's a beautiful area.
Your herring run is so much prettier than the one we have here! I went over yesterday to watch, and not nearly as many gulls around. Ours is a lot narrower, so I think the gulls have a hard time swooping down to grab one.
I think this is a sensational shot. I'm surprised they haven't found a way to deter the gulls so that the herring can make it. I guess it's not in the order of things. I've never been to the herring run. Hope I can do it with you next year! Wow, just love the lighting and the wings.
@digitalrn It actually is a very large herring run, Rick. The creek winds down beyond this photo for miles. To the back of this scene across the road is a gristmill and the creek continues up to a large pond. I could only capture part of it.
this is such a fun shot! I really stared at it for a long time! you did a fantastic job on focus - clear as a bell - I feel like I'm there! (wish I was!)
You really do a nice job of capturing these birds in a beautiful way. I'm not a big fan of them, but you certainly make them more attractive in my eyes. I loved your analogy here as well.
