Nauset Light by lauriehiggins

Nauset Light

Nauset Light used to perch high on the cliffs of Nauset Light Beach (the beach right down the street from my son's high school) in Eastham, but since the average dune erosion is about 3.8 feet a year, at some point the lighthouse was in danger of falling off the cliff. It was moved to its present location back away from the beach in 1996 and the lightkeeper's house was moved in 1998.
Classic New England scene. Wonderful shot.

I love lighthouses and this looks very nice in b&w

There is something about lighthouses that are so nostalgic and magical to me! Love this in B& W! Beauti-ella!

i love the scene and the B&W, very beautiful

So cool! Reminds me of @orangecrush Point Loma lighthouse - there are similar and yet 3,000 miles apart. Love the b&w!

I love lighthouses and you've done an excellent job of presenting this in B&W.

the b & w is perfect for this. Love your photo of Chillingsworth in the Times. It looked like a painting!

Great shot. Whoever thought of painting the top half of the lighthouse darker color had a good idea.

Great shot. It really stands out in silhouette.

Lets hope they don't have to be shifted again! We have had a road realigned because of sea erosion and now a few years later, have had that road completely closed! Most of it fell into the sea!

You did a good job with this! Love it and you!

great to see this Lighthouse and read about how it was shifted! That's pretty major erosion!

what a fabulous place. gosh, to think that they moved it......that must have been quite an undertaking!

Nice shot. The B&W gives it a more turn of the century feel.

Wow - what an undertaking! Love the composition and works so well in B and W, definitely gives it a timeless feel!

Well I am glad to hear they moved it to a safer spot. Would be a real shame to lose something this classy. Love the crisp dark tones.

This sure looks different in b&w. Better not show this one to Grandma Agard though. It was always a photo she took during every vacation when she visited us on the Cape. I believe she did a water color of this lighthouse, too, way back when....

wow - this is a lovely little lighthouse - I love looking around these places, so much history with lives lost and saved...love the b&W tones

This does look similar to the Point Loma light house! I thought of you when I was shooting that one! I felt like I was walking along one of your beaches! Amazing light house and capture, Laurie!

Very arty presentation here, Laurie!

So Laurie, where is this in the June word challenge? I guess you could re-tag this solitude, since it surely is. ;)

@sandier I posted this before I learned of the June challenge and my photo yesterday was for solitude. Since the challenge only has 15 (plus one bonus) words, I might not do a challenge every single day. But they sure are helping me think outside the box.

@orangecrush It made me smile that you thought of me when you saw a lighthouse, Jerry. That really is my world - seascapes.
