I'd almost given up on todays word and then I remembered this instrument of torture that I was required to read as part of my degree course.
I can't tell you how much I hated this and it strengthened my belief that revered classics are not required to be universaly revered and loved. It is on my personal junk heap along with all of D H Lawrence and Wuthering Heights (and several others)
A bit inclined to agree about TSE but I love Wuthering Heights!! I would put a great deal of Henry James on the pile - I just cannot get through his prose at all!! I feel a little bit like that about Thomas Hardy too - although he is not as bad!
