So I went back to the Heron Rookery today to see how things were going. Chicks were in nests and quiet since parents were out fishing. The best view in my opinion is located in a wet and muddy section. I went around the mud and up the hill to a dry section under the shade of a tree to wait for the chicks meal ticket to arrive. I didn't have to wait too long, one of the adults flew in and the mayhem began. The cameras were sitting beside me so I started taking pictures. While the view of the nest was great from the top of the hill the background was a townhouse building. Knowing if I went down the hill my view would be the sky, I quickly grabbed a camera in each hand and headed down the hill. In my haste to not totally miss the feeding which happens quickly I didn't quite clear the muddy section and down I went. It was like hitting a patch of ice. So much mud !!! I did take a couple snaps when I recovered to see if my cameras worked before heading back around the lake covered with mud to the car. Thankfully both cameras and I survived and just needed a good cleaning. The moral of my story is when you rush bad things can happen!!! I was lucky my cameras didn't go flying in the air (did not have them around my neck) and all my body parts are fine. My main camera is probably laughing as it sits safely at Nikon Service. What a way to start the weekend 🙃
So glad to know you and the cameras survived the ordeal with only your dignity damaged .........and of course the amazinig photos you got in spite of it all . The mark of a great photographer
