Last Wednesday before leaving for the beach I found a monarch caterpillar on the milkweed plant outside. I went hunting for something to put him in and had decided on a mason jar but Bob had a better idea. We had an old large pickle jar in the garage forever, I don't even remember where it came from (maybe one of the boys). I put dirt and leaves in the jar for him which he ate that day. He crawled up the side of the jar that night and was just sleeping. I cut a piece of the plant, put it in a little container of water and added it to the jar before I left Thursday morning. I only took a quick picture before leaving. Bob was going to add another piece of the plant if needed and keep an eye on him while I was away. I kept forgetting to ask Bob about the little guy each day we talked on the phone. Subconsciously I think I was afraid to know how he was doing. I arrived home real late last night, unloaded the car and went to bed once again forgetting all about him. Well, this morning I remembered and braced myself to see if he had made it ( Bob had already left for work so I couldn't ask him). Looking in the jar I sadly couldn't find him till OMG there he is doing just what I thought he would hanging from the top in his little chrysalis. I'm sad I missed capturing the change but maybe I'll get lucky and get some shots of him emerging into a butterfly. Bob said he saw the chrysalis Friday so Due date is Oct. 1st ....so excited
