We made it to Penang in Malaysia, we left Bangkok yesterday on an overnight train to Hat Yai in Southern Thailand – from there we caught a minibus to Georgetown on Penang Island – a 24 hour trip all in all but we managed just fine. I do think I’ll sleep well tonight though :)
So far I really like Penang, I love old shop houses and I’ve been photographing facades, doors, signs - you name it - like a mad woman! Martin seems slightly worried that I’ll be run over by a car or motorbike on the pretty heavily trafficked streets here, but I kinda have to walk in the middle of the road to properly photograph the lovely old houses and temples :) We live an old, heritage house – in bright green and have a view right out to an old cemetery, I love it, it has so much character! And who cares if the toilet only flushes every other time, right?
Okay, I’ll stop my rant now – take care all you lovely 365’ers :)
aw I love this and am so excited for you, I studied abroad in the philippines and traveled thailand and malaysia for a week and a half with my sister... want desperately to go back to spend more time. are you going to go to taman negara? the phrase 'ancient rainforest' just haunts me.
beautiful light. I love the character too and the erosion but after 9 years in mostly developing countries I have to confess sometimes you just want the toilet to work...and to be clean- lol :)
