Five spotted hawk moth by lindasees

Five spotted hawk moth

I found this huge moth just outside our garden plot. It's over 4 inches long and beautifully camouflaged. I thought it was really cool until I got home and found that it lays eggs that turn into the horrible tomato hornworm. Tomato hornworms can eat a whole tomato plant overnight and will do the same to pepper plants. Very cool moth, but now I'm thinking I should have killed that flying breeder of my mortal garden enemy.
Amazing that you spotted it! Great shot.
