I was at the office. I remember my Team Leader saying his wife had just called - a plane had accidentally hit one of the Twin Towers. Tragic, and yet we didn't know the truth at the time. I remember going downstairs to one of the training rooms for a half hour, coming back out to the hallway where people were gathered around a TV monitor and seeing the second tower fall. I remember turning to Peggy and saying "what did we just see?", going back upstairs to find no one working, everyone around blaring radios, and getting the word that our office was closing for the rest of the day. I remember calling my family, and how odd it was that every TV station was either reporting the same news or was off the air. I remember our special Wednesday night church service and our Sunday service, where in a sanctuary that holds 5000 people, we had to bring in extra chairs. I remember thinking that the US would be OK, we would get through it and come out stronger, but we would never be the same. And we would always remember.
Great tribute! And very sad... I was half a year old back then and just on that day I first turned around from back to belly while my parents watched the pics from NYC.. So unfitting actually :/ but a date never to forget for me... For two reasons.
very nice Lin. I was at home on vacation - I remember getting up and putting on the news. . at that time they thought it was pilot error. no idea what was actually happening. A tragic day that changed us all.
On that morning I told my high school students they would always remember what they were doing that morning. I'm sure they do remember, but as for younger children remembering--I'm not so sure. They know the world they've grown up in--they don't remember what it was like before 9-11. So much has changed.
Great tribute to the people lost in 9-11. We all remember what we were doing that day and it was also a poignant for my. I had just driven home from a very stressful job having suddenly broken down in tears. I was just staring at the wall when the news coverage came on the TV. My problems that I never recovered from was insignificant to what was happening in New York.
Beautiful tribute. I was observing my student teacher teach that morning. Our students came into the room and told us the news. My student teacher and I were shocked. I will always remember what happened.
@mbemis I believe the young ones will remember, or at least remember their parents reactions. I was in third grade when President Kennedy was shot and still recall that day like it was yesterday. Thanks for stopping by!
@ladymagpie I was thinking as I was posting this if any of my new friends outside the US were impacted by this and I guess the answer is yes. Thanks so much for sharing your story with me.
