Alternative title - Philosophical Monday. I didn't notice the phone charging on the table in the Bluegrass Bus until I uploaded the photo. Then I started thinking about how entertainment/communication has changed so dramatically over the decades. The microphone is from the AM radio station 650 WSM, which first broadcasted in 1925 and hosted the Grand Ole Opry, now the longest running radio show in history. I vaguely remember my great grandparents having a radio like the one in the capture. I imagine their excitement over having news and sports and music in their home for the first time. I'm sure everyone gathered around in the evening to enjoy it together. Sometimes I think those days are gone forever. But then I hear a story like this one from my friends. Grandfather Ray (yes, the same one from my Harvest Moon capture) and his teenage granddaughter will sit on the couch together and text each other, just for fun and laughs. This is the story she will relay to her kids and grandkids about the good old days. Maybe technology isn't the enemy - it's just how you use and enjoy it.
Lovely capture and brings back memories for me. I remember the first TV we had, it was a very small screen in a big standing box. Not that reliable but my Father knew where to bang it to get it working. You actually had to get up to switch it on or off and later to change the channels, all 3 of them. YES GET UP out of the chair. Lovely capture and a FAV for giving me a memory.
Wow love your story Lyn!
Also love the vintage look.......I currently work at a radio station and things have sure changed! One of these days I should post a shot of what the microphones look like now!
@radiogirl Thanks so much! My mom worked at a radio station in the early 1960s. Going to visit her office is one of my earliest memories. I'd love to see a modern station!
I too love the memories of the past. My Mom telling stories of running to the music store at the end of the week to buy a Frank Sinatra record when she was younger. Her sisters singing to the radio and records in harmony. I have reel to reel tapes of them singing and us a children keeping the tradition. Thanks for posting this it has brought back so many memories. FAV
