I just signed up for the Indy N.I.T.E. The N.I.T.E. Ride starts at 11:00 pm (at NIGHT!). It travels along well-lit roads through Downtown Indianapolis, the Indiana Statehouse, Monument Circle, Butler University, Indianapolis Museum of Art, wanders along the White River and through the IUPUI Campus. The distance is about 19 miles. I’ve never done it before, but my stepmom mentioned it and it just sounded fun. True, I rarely stay up past eleven, I rarely ride my bike more than five miles at a time, I’m still whining about the Indy Mini next weekend. But I love our downtown and I can’t wait to ride through the lamplit streets on a warm summer night. Added bonus is that my daughter signed up, too.
Cool, it will be fun, but take it from someone who has done a lot of riding without preparing, PREPARE. Last year I did 26 miles along the Erie Canal, and I did no preparation, and needless to say, I had a hard time sitting for a few days later. Will you be able to stop for photops, or is it a non stop ride til the finish?
@wjw1741@wjw1741 Thanks for the advice! I plan to start training for the ride as soon as the Indy Mini is over next weekend. I think the first thing I’ll do is invest in some padded cycling shorts regardless of how goofy I look in them! Unfortunately, I think it’s a nonstop ride so there won’t be any photo ops. :(
@sarasdadandmom I’ll look for the officer with a camera in his hand! I’ll be the one whining the loudest as I go by. Either that or being hauled back on first aid golf cart.
