Evolution of the U.S. Penny

While rummaging through my husband’s change jar and “borrowing” some money, I ran across an old wheat penny. I set it aside thinking it might make a nice photo. Later I ran across the latest style penny and thought the same thing. Then in a moment of brilliance I thought it might be a good picture to show all three pennies that one might find in circulation right now. The fronts of the pennies all have Honest Abe in his usual pose. The year of each penny from left to right is: 1956, 1995, 2010
This is a very cool and interesting presentation. I'm embarrassed to admit I have never noticed the new 2010 penny. I thought the focus was going to be on phasing out the penny rather than introducing a new design.

I collect wheat pennies, and I am also throwing all the new pennies into a jar to save.

I love this picture! I have a bunch of old wheat pennies, too. Wonder if they'll ever be worth anything more than a penny?

My dad always collected wheat pennies, so I have a soft spot for them. I like the simplicity of the photo. My dad used to always give my kids $1 each for wheat pennies....not a bad return.

1956 was a very good year! Love the way you made it a money/history lesson. The wheat pennies are very pretty. I'll have to see if I can find any in our coin piles. Great shot.
