Halloween must seem strange to people when they first come to the U.S. from another country. This is a light up skull my mother-in-law had sitting out tonight when we stopped by her house. When you step back and look at all of the horrible things we find in stores like bloody masks and fake medieval weapons sitting alongside pretty princess dresses and fairy wings, it really is absurd. But the whimsy of it is why it’s one of my favorite holidays. It’s just plain fun without the obligation of buying gifts or serving a big meal.
Lisa, I'm dying her because I saw the title of your photo on my news feed - "Holiday Decor", and for some reason, my mind goes right to Christmas. I literally sat here for a moment trying to figure out what was Christmasy about this skull before I realized the holiday to which you were referring was Halloween. Which is obvious to everyone else, I'm sure, it's just that I'm broken, I guess. : ) At any rate... My kids would LOVE to have this decor! Plus, it photographs well, you did a good job with the set up and it's cool how the silvery skull reflects the light... : )
@erikadee You’re not broken! I always think of Christmas when i see the term holiday decor, too, so I thought it would be goofy to title use it as a title for something that’s pretty much the polar opposite! I took this picture on a green chair. Isn’t it fun what you can do with camera settings?
I confirm that it's pretty strange when you first come to the US from another country! lol Personally, I like the cute ghost/pumpkin/friendly witch aspect of Halloween. Not much for spiders, ghouls and other bloody 'scream' masks, I too scare easily. But it's the only time of the year I can wear a medieval dress!
