The Poppy Project by ljmanning

The Poppy Project

To remember is to work for peace.

The Poppy Project is a public art project of remembrance. Volunteers were asked to knit or crochet individual poppies, with a goal of gathering 10,000 of them. In the end, 33,530 poppies were donated. They have been combined into 16 different Remembrance Day art installations around the city. This one is on the roof of my local library branch. Best on black if you have the time. You can see a close up of the individual poppies in my extra album https://365project.org/ljmanning/etcetera/2021-11-11

@marlboromaam Sadly, I don’t. Work doesn’t leave time for driving around to shoot them! They draped the front of city hall, wrapped bridges and statues - it was pretty neat. Each little flower made by hand.

@ljmanning I'd say it was a big yarn bomb with purpose. =)

Sadly wars and conflicts continue but maybe the spirit of remembrance will eventually snuff out war.
