The Fredericksburg elk by louannwarren

The Fredericksburg elk

The elk herd at our vacation cabins last week was behind an 8' wire fence, in a very large compound. I counted 8 cows and 2 bulls, this one's horns were still in the velvet, he posed for me on our last morning.
Beautiful and interesting photo

@Weezilou They have elk in Oregon and a place where they gather and are often seen in Oregon on the way to the coast... its quite wonderful if you are ever out here.

He was a real beauty - came across a herd in Colorado some years ago and thought they were so impressive - were just wandering in a recreation area in the winter - no one else there but us - must have been over 20 of them. Bet this was such fun to watch.

@stefneyhart Thanks, Steph...another good reason to visit up north! I saw them in Estes Park, CO, but it's been a long time.

@drnhtung @mittens @gijsje @carolscho @bkbinthecity @beryl @Weezilou @gilbertwood @stefneyhart @milaniet It was our last day at the cabins and he acted like he knew it. He watched me as I walked toward his compound and just stood still! I felt lucky he didn't run!

@olivetreeann @gaylewood @nicolecampbell @kwind @taffy @littleconnie @gigiflower He was one of two bulls there that I could see. I only saw one cow that wasn't pregnant, they will have lots of calves running around before long. I had to wonder if their area was large enough to accommodate all of them once the calves grow up, I'll have to check on them the next time we are in the hill country.
