Can you say “public art gone all wrong”?

Southlake is a town in North Texas that prides itself on having the best of everything. They have a shopping area that is really quite nice, this “cow” is standing by the City Hall there and I have to say it is the ugliest pubic art I’ve ever seen. It is adorned with shopping center buildings, band stands, even the city water tower. As my mother would say “I declare, what is this world coming to”?
Your mother said it right! This one really is "unique" - is that the right word when you're trying to be polite :) Neat shot to share though.

Interesting artwork, I am sure there must be a story behind it.

LOL - great art work, well captured! My hometown has some similar mules around town (Columbia TN is Muletown, USA)

We do something similar around here only with horses!

Interesting find. I thought all of these decorated cows were long gone. Good way to advertise.

There were similar art projects in various town - Berlin had a bunch of bears painted by various artists, some other towns - other things.

I agree - and the rate payers have to fund something like this!

Oh my. What a funny 'find'!

Well, I'm not sure civic pride needs to be displayed like this, but apparently the people of Southlake don't mind! Fun shot!

I've seen these in several cities throughout the state. Great find and a nice shot! :-)

Not wanting to seem controversial and swim against the flow Lou Ann but I quite like it, certainly brightens up a trip to City Hall plus makes a subject and talking point to share with all us 365ers:)

Thank you all for your great comments. This is a longhorn steer, one of the symbols of Texas. At one time you could find them all over Dallas, painted in various themes. As wild as they were they were a lot better looking than this guy. You are right though, he did give me something to post to 365 and you put him on the PP, thank you!

It's not so bad. At the Iowa State Fair, they have done this with pigs!

years ago, we also had the same displays all over the city, but instead we had moose. i have a few photos of that as my then partner insisted i should try and photograph all, drove me around the city just for that. ours had themes depending on where they are located or what business was sponsoring tbem. I think if they're lined up just in one place, it would have been a good exhibit, but to put them all over the city just spoils the landscape. i think the money spent here would've been well spent if donated to the soup kitchens or food banks or some other useful causes. nice capture though, Lou ann.
