We’ve had so much rain this week that the few remaining ranchland acres in our community are covered in the wildflower Yellow Top (also known as Butter Weed). This horse was standing in full profile when I first saw him, but turned to eat in this pose by the time I turned the car around, parked, grabbed my camera and walked to this spot. Ha! I am ever so thankful for this rancher who continues to have this clear land and working ranch in our city limits. I honestly don’t know how much longer he will resist the land developers who I am sure are breathing down his neck.
I could sit and look at this all day. It is so pretty and relaxing. The ranch we visited last weekend is fascinating. They are building a new town in order to support the remaining preserve and working ranch portion. I love it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babcock_Ranch
We must hang on to these treasures of grassland amidst the ever swallowing up of agricultural land. All power to his elbow! The yellow top must be ok for horses to eat!
@danette interesting article about that Florida project, it sounds really great. Jerry says there are lots of horse ranches in Southwest Florida, would love to see this development when it’s built.
A scene like this is a must within the city limits - it's sure becoming a rarity unfortunately. We all need to enjoy this kind of peaceful space. Lovely shot.
A great shot!
