The 9 Boys of Praha

At the painted church St Mary’s of the Assumption in Praha (Czech name for Prague), Texas, there is a lovely small stone memorial building dedicated to these young men. Praha lost 9 young men during the last year of WWII, the highest percentage of lives lost to the war of any town in America. Three of the boys attended St Mary’s. They were all farm boys and their families are still in the area.

Every Veteran’s Day Praha has a community wide celebration that honors The 9 Boys. Evidently it’s quite an affair, a lovely way to honor their veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.

That is a really nice memorial and I'm glad that it is perpetuated by the church. Their lives were certainly a high price to pay for our freedom.
