The young man who shot President Reagan in 1981 lived at one time in the most exclusive neighborhood in Dallas, Highland Park. I went to mother’s cedar chest looking for some newspapers for the word “newspaper” today and was surprised to only find three front pages. I have not gone through the cedar chest since I brought it home after she passed away over 20 years ago. Oh the family treasures I found! I had to carefully put everything back after I found the newspapers because I knew I would be there all day reminiscing.
@summerfield I don’t know! I want to say $1.00 during the week and maybe $2.50 for Sunday at the newsstand, but I’m not sure! It’s $3.99 a week for a subscription, but honestly we depend on the TV news and just don’t see any reason to subscribe to the paper.
Ooh Lou Ann , how wonderful to have a chest of family treasures and to be able to delve into this after all these years - I am afraid I would have been distracted to delve some more ! And what a piece of history to unearthed !
This is awesome to see this piece of history! I remember it well but at that time had no idea where highland park was. Now I know someone from there besides John Hinckley!
I still have the paper from when Armstrong first stepped on the moon - we were on vacation in Bimidji, Minnesota - remember it well. Excellent condition
I remember this happening, someone shooting the president is always headline grabbing, even across the Atlantic! There was an attempted assassination of Pope John Paul 2nd a few months later. I can see why that chest would have had you enthralled!
