My book club has been meeting for 65 years, in all of those years the only meetings missed were two in 2020, due to the pandemic. Tuesday our reviewer presented three books, she is a legend in Dallas and we love her reviews. She has no notes, and just the most unbelievable memory, her reviews are so good. Bottom left is one of five tables of members and on the right is reviewer Rose-Mary Rumbley, she was celebrating her 89th birthday Tuesday. 🥰
What a lovely way to celebrate that great Anniversary - that's a long time for a club to stay active. Think of all those wonderful books over the years!
Omw this is so amazing Lou Ann! Don't tell me that you were there from the beginning! I only started serious reading when I was way into my twenties. Your reviewer must be a very special person.
Your book club sounds like the most successful ever Lou Ann. Going for so long & lots of members, you are all a credit to the book world. Sounds fun too, I wish we had one like that. Our book clubs seem to come & go & I don’t know of any round me! The thing would be for me to start one you would say but I feel I can’t be bothered…I would join a local one though.
@dide@grammyn@onewing@milaniet@mittens@ingrid01@theredcamera@carolmw@ludwigsdiana@happypat@gijsje@sugarmuser@carole_sandford@olivetreeann@happysnaps thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I did the math and 65 years of 9 meetings a year is 585 meetings. We missed two last year due to the pandemic and the year I served as president I had to cancel one for bad traffic conditions caused by ice and snow. Alas through the years the attendance has not been carefully recorded but I’m sure there have been a few years that a meeting was cancelled due to the weather. Some younger women (mid to late sixties) are joining now, which will keep the club going forward for years to come. It’s such a nice group of women.
That's a truly wonderful group of story-photos, and such a great commentary on your part! I'm beyond-impressed that you all have been at this for so long, and that it's truly a learning experience rather than a "lunchtime get-together" as how my local friends bill one here! (That, to me, would miss the point!) You all truly need to be applauded, and that you've only been absent a couple of times through the years...so impressive!
@summerfield@Weezilou@taffy thank you ladies, this club really is special. Oh the stories that the oldest members have told. I found a book club in Dallas today that is 83 years old! Isn’t that amazing?!
