Jewelweed by loweygrace

Jewelweed

Jewelweed, also known as touch-me-not is tall bush that has lovely orange specked flowers and silvery leaves that repel water. It has two really cool properties. Firstly, its seed pods are responsive to touch. When your hand or an animal brushes them, they spring open and the seeds pop out, hoping to be piggybacked to a new home. Touch-me-not also has a very practical medicinal use, in that if you’ve just had an unfortunate encounter with poison ivy (or nettles), you can crush the stem and apply the juice to your skin to reduce irritation.

We have this on Beaver Island and I've heard of its use for poison ivy. It's a pretty plant for being so useful as well.
