soon they will be pruned and ready for the next season. I wonder what will happen to the wines of the last season, as it is not allowed to be sold. All the estates are closed, with no visiting or tastings. Such a tragedy!
fantastic seeing them at this stage before the pruning. are you saying that even if a vineyard made wine during the lock down they can't sell it, or is it simply that prohibition is still in place?
Beautiful shot. Even at this stage the vines make a lovely spectacle. with the appropriate care I think they can save the wine for a few years. After all vintage wines exist and are sold at higher prices.
I have followed your wine industry tragedy closely, my heart breaks for the winery owners, I hope that most can survive the lockdown. To work as hard as they have to make a product that is sold worldwide then to slam the door on them is just horrible.
Last spring I procrastinated on buying some South African wine juice to make wine. I missed my opportunity. Looks like I will have to wait a bit longer to get some juice from S.A.
The vines do look quite devastated in that condition but at least they can be pruned which in the long run is good for them. As for the wine itself- aging usually improves a wine so hopefully these businesses can hang on until they can sell them again. Are they forbidden to sell on line as well as in person? We're all hoping they'll be able to make it through. Good shot!
Wonderful shot with those lines - and I'm as curious as most above on the story behind the no sell idea. Living in Arkansas wine country, I know what a terrible effect that would have on so many lives.
@koalagardens@777margo@happysnaps@pusspup@louannwarren@merrelyn@olivetreeann@shutterbug49@milaniet During our 3 month lockdown, no wine was allowed to be sold or exported. They lifted the ban for a few weeks, and realised that too many hospital beds were being occupied by patients who had either been stabbed, shot or gang related violence. More women and children were being physically abused and beaten too. These people just cannot handle alcohol! So as from last Monday, the ban was put back in place without any warning. We also have a curfew again. I am not sure if they are allowed to export again, but online shopping is also forbidden. We just hope it does not last till September, as we will be sitting dry then.
@ludwigsdiana thanks so much for the update - I hope the Kiffness comes up with another great song to show the situation. But how awful that when the ban was lifted there was so much violence so quickly!
@ludwigsdiana That must be so disheartening to the wineries. They work so hard but the irresponsible behavior of others towards innocent people puts their livelihood in danger.
Suchs a shame.
So sad to hear of the consequences of lifting the ban.
