in Hermanus was built in 1904 although the town started in 1855. The gutting tables towards the right, were added in 1935 and the last boats left there in 1958. Hermanus is a great tourist attraction due to the whale festival and whale watching. The Southern Rights are there between June and September, They give birth and raise their young during this time. Some have still been sighted in January. Unfortunately there were none to be seen as we drove through.
I was watching Attenbourough (I think) and there were Right whales in the programme, who are thought to have been alive at the time of the great whale slaughters. Not surprising none to be seen, there's only 2000 females on the planet.
we have some friends who stay in hermanus often as they have children & grandchildren there still - we're hoping to make it over there with them at some point. this is enticing me!
Love the waves you captured here
