Matryoshka dolls

are a traditional representation of the mother carrying a child within her and can be seen as a representation of a chain of mothers carrying on the family legacy through the child in their womb. I took this shot in the gallery at Hazendal which is a Russian owned wine estate.

Ohh...they are lovely such beautiful painting. I have a set too...which I bought on a Russian cruise ship in a different lifetime......mine are the more 'traditional' colours and style though.

Beautiful set- the colors are very rich and Russian- the deep navy blue and rich crimson red. Nicely captured! And I agree with Esther- they sort of look like you (if you had a braid coming off the side of your hair!).
