Rented a 100mm macro lens and just tried it on some flowers in the backyard. It was windy and I was hand-holding so I wasn't quite as sharp as I would have liked. But no cropping on this whatsoever so happy with the macro part of it.
How long will you have it to play with? Think that is a great idea to see if you honestly want one for keep Really super macro with this. Can't imagine what it would be in ideal conditions but I hope I get to see.
@milaniet I rented it for 2 weeks. I had won some things in a local photo contest and a voucher for the rental was one of them. I have a friend that also won a voucher and she rented the same lens for 2 weeks so we will be trying to figure it out together.
