OMG! I got out of the car this morning, took a couple of pictures, turned around and there was a SKUNK about 4 feet away from me! All I could think was "get back in the car fast... please don't spray me, please don't spray me"! It turned and ran the other way and seemed as startled to see me as I was him. If you've never smelled skunk spray, you can't even imagine how intense and horrible it is. We had a dog get sprayed once and the smell lingered for weeks, even after baths in every remedy we could find. I did smell the skunk spray as I was driving around this morning and was reminded of how incredibly awful it is, probably the worst smell you would ever smell in your life!
Oh my god, incredible sky. Worth chancing the skunk encounter. I think I recall hearing that skunks are usually pretty wary of people and try to steer clear.
You got a beautiful shot. I really like the way the fence wires intertwine and the colors in the sky are stunning. So glad your story had a happy ending with you and the skunk running in opposite directions. I have smelled skunk spray - it is ghastly!!!
Love these colors against black - Stunning. As dark as it was, I can see why you didn't notice the skunk - that was scary!! Glad he took off - sure wouldn't want the car sprayed either!! Stays forever.
OMG you described that one 100%! I was JUST about to tell you about a lady here who has skunks in her yard, but there she is...Laurie, who just left a comment @laurieewilson We have local friends who have one who made a burrow in their yard, and animal control would not remove it! I told them how they keep the yard snail-and-slug free for Laurie, but beyond that, your chance encounter in the early morning was to be avoided, Lynn! We wouldn't have wanted to read anything else!
4 feet... that's WAAAAAAY too close. You better go play the Lotto 'cause today is definitely your lucky day. And not only because the skunk didn't douse you in his stink but for the gorgeous sunrise you captured.
We certainly know about that odor around here and we have had them pass through the back yard snacking on the seeds which fell to the ground from the bird feeder but thankfully there is nothing that will scare them into spraying. It truly is such an awful smell. I've only been exposed to one that was worse- a refrigerator full of rancid meat (filled and then unplugged by some former tenants of an apartment we moved into).
Beautiful colors. Glad you didn't get sprayed. I had to laugh, we had a whole article in the paper last week to watch out for skunks because they are breeding early this year because of the warm weather.
