Like everywhere, we have been asked to stay home. Restaurants. bars and many businesses have been shut down. There are only 45 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Iowa, but there is a big shortage of test kits here. I've read stories of people who are very ill but haven't been able to get the test. It is taking 3-5 days to get results too. I work in a law office part-time and it is still open. I chose not to go to work today because I was nervous working closely with clients who came in to sign their tax returns. I feel like I have an obligation to go to work next week, but I feel safer staying home. Take care everyone.
Same story the world over. Panic buyers have emptied the stores and the suppliers cannot keep pace with demand as much as they try. There was a nurse crying on the TV yesterday who was interviewd - she was begging people not to panic buy because she could only go to buy food after work, when she had spent all day caring for sick people, and when she got there it was empty. I hope it all calms down soon. There is enough to go around but empty shelves just fuel the fear.
Dearie me. It's terrible what people are doing. It's the same here. No bread, no toilet roll (why????), no oats, no pasta. I am trying really hard to only do my regular daily shop (increased 3-fold by having my son home ...), and our local co-op is now rationing items! Challenging times.
same in New Zealand. We do not have a shortage of food or supplies. These people are not thinking of the elderly who are not likely to have money or capacity to 'stock up' and when they get to the supermarket, there is little left on the shelves for them.
The new normal. Panic buying has slowed down a bit here at the moment and thing are still available in the shops. I even managed to buy toilet rolls today. Haven't seen any for weeks.
You shouldn't be going to work I agree - we now have strict self isolation rulings here in uk and only people who are in certain jobs can go into work, but if possible to work from home.
Looks as if this could be in the UK too! If you're lucky enough to have a bread maker or have strong arms, there's no bread flour or yeast to be had either ...
What is scary is that this shot could be from anywhere right now. Nice capture. The state of GA has over 400 cases and the town next to us is on lockdown. Luckily we love our neighbors and live in a flat neighborhood with sidewalks. Still going bonkers though. Stay well. Good luck.
Good shot but sad circumstances that set it up. We have some similar situations around here too. There is still food on the shelves but certain areas of the store are bare.
Our supermarkets have introduced limits on the purchase of many items but it's not really helping. The selfish ones are simply shopping several times a day!
My hubby is a tax accountant and I have been very nervous mailing his clients’ completed packages or having him go to them or having them come to our home. Now it is on hold and he can file the rest as extensions from home. So I hope you can stay home also.
Keep safe Lynn! We did a curbside pickup at Walmart for the first time today rather than risking being around all those people, based on the number of cars in the parking lot. The governor of Pennsylvania has ordered all nonessential business closed. Restaurants have been ordered to close their dine in areas and go strickly carry out.
We have the same view in our supermarkets right now. Hopefully things will start to balance out over the next two weeks with restrictions on what businesses are open and the closing of schools and other public events. With people staying home maybe some of the supplies will restock. At least that's what I'm hoping!
We haven't been able to find toilet paper in the stores since this started. My daughter was at a store that said they had toilet paper when it opened this morning. She stood in a line of about 50 people, hoping to surprise us by bringing some home. Just as she got to the front of the line they put up the sign saying that they were all out. We have resorted to using the napkins and tissues that we have and putting them in a closed can next to the toilet to be thrown out since they don't dissolve like toilet paper does, and we don't want to clog our plumbing. I never imagined a toilet paper shortage of all things.
That's what our stores looked like until they started limiting amounts. My tax accountant is not letting anyone in the building. They have a window that opens to pass the papers to be signed.
