The fireworks this year had some different types I've never seen before. This was one. There was some with hearts in the middle (I didn't get that shot). Some looked like musical notes. I was too lazy to carry a tripod but next year I might talk my husband into carrying it. :-)
The firework pictures are getting better and better.. very different Margaret and I think you're right one needs a tripod. said this to my husband so we can try to get some good shots next year.

wow this is a great capture, a proper glitter shower! We did see some heart-shaped fireworks also (in D.C.), and I was really wondering how you set up fireworks like this! Amazing!
