Salute to the Fallen by maggiemae

Salute to the Fallen

The renovated War Memorial in Oamaru. It was shifted down the road, lock stock and barrel recently to make way for a new road configuration. They smartened it up and now it looks wonderful!
Great capture of the memorial, Maggiemae! Love the carvings at the bottom! Are they stone or bronze?

@marlboromaam Thanks Mags for you comment - they are stone. I have dramatised this statue a bit (just a little bit!)
April 18th, 2012
@maggiemae I think stone makes them even better than cast in bronze!

Cool! Like the way you processed this, it does look more dramatic this way! What a great tribute!

@thendrix58 @darsphotos @vskolnik @wannabe Thanks for your remarks - it is actually the South African War from 1899 to 1902 so its a very long time ago!

maggiemae would have made a great anzac day shot on the 25th of April.
April 18th, 2012
@tesssa it might have been a bit out dated. Anzac was the 1st world war at Gallipoli in 1915. not long after this monument for 1902, really!
April 18th, 2012
@maggiemae In Australia Anzac day is to remember all those who served there country in all wars.
April 18th, 2012
Perhaps it is here too! I go to a service and actually they don't make a point of Gallipoli!
April 18th, 2012
Wow! That realy is a fine memorial!....love your pov & dramatic colouring!
April 18th, 2012
There is one of these in every city, town, district and shire across Australia and New Zealand to remember the sacrifice that all soldiers from these areas have made in all wars. When you drive or walk past one you can't help but be moved - like I am now. Thanks MM for the reminder that Anzac Day is close at hand - Lovely capture and enhancement.

A timely reminder for Anzac Day next Wednesday...Love your Pov and processing!!

I had though Anzac Day represented Australian & Nz soldiers who had fought in any war. I googled and got this http://www.anzac.govt.nz/ Great shot Maggie, and such a slice of NZ.
