Windmill - steam punk style

photo 161
In Oamaru today this edifice was erected on the site of the Community Gardens. It is designed to generate electricity which will run various equipment in the Gardens. I watched them all put it together then an hour later it was "Hoist Away"! My camera battery went flat just as it was reaching its vertical height! Never mind, this was better!

@boogie There are a few in that line up who are dedicated steam punkers!

I'm not sure what a steam punker is, but I like their style!

Aww Brilliant!.....Loving the steam punk scene!.....Great fun shot! : )

@boogie this is a definition from wikipedia: Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology, or futuristic innovations as Victorians might have envisioned them, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. This technology includes such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the contemporary authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld and China Mieville.

I do not know what a steam punker is but I like their style. And yours. This is a wonderful shot to tell the story. And don't you hate it when the battery goes? I'm trying to pay better attention.

Awesome - I wish my community was as accepting of community gardens. The way the carry on with their NIMBY-ness in the local paper makes me wonder if they have confused "community garden" with "terrorist cell".

@corymbia lol, Amanda! These Gardens bring people together including those on parole, detention etc as well as children and old people!

I always thought they could make wind turbines prettier, I had thought giant sunflowers, though this works as well.

This is a great community shot. Fantastic green idea too. Oamaru is very progressive. Nice looking windmill. Fav.
