This 18year old from Wellington NZ is running the length of NZ to raise awareness and money for child cancer. She was running alone at this time and we went out from Oamaru especially to support her by driving alongside for some time. She runs at an average of 10km/hr and this is world class speed. For comparison, the world 24 hour women run at an average speed of 7.75km/hr. Her expected finish is in Bluff with a total of 35 days which would be a record! She has got the whole trip organised herself and sponsors are helping. Total distance she will have run will be approximately 2,200km (about 1,400 miles!).
She stopped at a dairy here and enjoyed a large chocolate icecream! If you wish to donate - the website is: http://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/VictoriaTaylorNZRUN/
She would be so stoked as she says if others donated as her sponsored phone doesn't work anymore and she can't communicate through the internet.
Great effort! Most 18 year olds are living at home with Mum and Dad and partying every weekend. It is great to know we still have some adventurers amongst us and this one has a good heart too!
She is absolutely amazing to do this at her age and for the cause she is running for. Did she lose someone or know of someone who died or has battled childhood cancer? Wonderful shot and nice to get out and see her run.
That is an amazing goal and judging by what you've written here, she is going to accomplish it with flying colors. I also think that was great that you stayed with her for a while to support her. I'm sure that was a tremendous boost for her to keep going. Nice collage to tell the story!
@maggiemae So many get out and do what they can when Cancer has touched their lives. I know many that go out and run or walk for the cause. I am sorry that she has lost a family member and knew a 3 year old that died in June. I lost my best friend when we were 15 from Cancer. It sure is a difficult thing to see happen to one you care about and changes your life. Glad she is making a difference.
@darsphotos Thank you Darlene for your thoughts! You are right, so many do so much! I'm so happy when I can be part of it and that is what happened here - just for a short while~
What a great young lady--such a wonderful example to all of us!!! Thank you so much for sharing her story, maggiemae. And how fun for you to be a part of her experience--you are GREAT!!! And, yes, SHE IS FAST!!! I hope she raises a lot of money--thanks for sharing her link.
Great photos of a great young woman and a terrific runner. Is she running both north and South Islands? I hope she reaches her goal. And makes the Olympic team!
