I don't know the name of this rose but it has the colours of a delicious sundae! My roses are all huge this year and wonderful! I got out in the sunshine to take this photo before the weather in the night which presented this rose with rain drops, dried out! Seen much better in large!
More on my Mother's Travel Diary. Remember this vehicle she was travelling in was a 1928 car. She writes: "One little doggie nearly lost his life today. He’s still alive, thank goodness and so is the chook which exercised our brakes!"
She describes Monmouth Castle as being the birthplace of Henry V and Lady Hamilton features in the interesting Museum there;
"There are ever so many portraits of Lady Hamilton, wife of Sir William “of Nelson fame, gifts to and from her, tremendous lots of silver, Georgian ware, gifts of water and tea sets, swords, one presented by the King of Spain with handle in diamonds (now paste). Nelsons hat, shirts, nightcap, ring. a curious affair made of sovereigns in his possession, letters written before and after he lost his arm and one written 2 days before he died (21st Aug, 1795). Ever so many swords, pictures of him at all stages, a copy of the Times telling of the fight – how it wasn’t worth (Trafalgar) the life of such a modest and famous gentlemen loved by all the nation".
There are only a few pages left of this diary - I wonder where she finishes - haven't looked.
39562 words. Will get to 40000 today!
Beautiful rose Maggiemae. I love these. Saw one a bit like it yesterday and nearly bought it except I don't have a good place to put it ATM!
Thanks for sharing the diary- I'm really enjoying these little snippets.
Love this rose has it got a scent i wonder? Loving hearing about your sun & warm weather hope it's the same in North Island! Funny being in your country so near yet so far!!!! Not much chance of us coming to south Island this time I'm afraid! You must be a little sorry to be coming to the end of mums journey as we are too!
Fabulous colors and gorgeous flower, Maggie. The diary reminds me of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" movie. Not similar circumstances of course but just the intricate details & the fact she read it to her daughter on her death bed and her daughter knew nothing about her life. You are doing a fabulous job putting it together
That is one of the most beautiful roses I have ever seen on here. FAV for sure. And I continue to enjoy reading about your mum's travels. I will miss reading about her adventures.
Thanks for sharing the diary- I'm really enjoying these little snippets.
